• He studied directly under Sensei Steve Rowe 8th Dan founder of Shi Kon Martial Arts at the association's Honbu Dojo for five years, gaining first Dan in 2001
• Continuing his studies with Honiton Wado Kai, he achieved 2nd Dan in 2005
• He has a level 1 martial arts coaching certificate.
• He has an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check
